Climbing to the Sun

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

I have always been obsessed with sunrises.Sunrise makes me happy. Sunrise means hope, a new day, possibilities. Sunsets—meh. Not so much.

If the weather is clear, I want to watch the sun come up. I have seen the sun rise in some pretty amazing places. I bet you have, too. We have beautiful photos of sunrises saved in our phones, our albums, our memories.

I'm drawn to follow the sun, like a climbing vine. I don't know why. Our home faces east, so I get a pretty good view of our beloved star as it rises over the hills every morning. But I'm finding that I want to get a better view, an earlier view, each day. So I leash the dogs and take them on an early walk through the nearby woods, up a hilly trail that affords me an earlier view of that beautiful sight, if I can just climb high enough. Climbing to the sun. It's what we do. Every morning. We get out of bed, put our feet on the floor, and begin.

It's what I've titled my soon-to-be-published second novel about two women who refuse to give up hope—they wake up every day and keep climbing. #ClimbingToTheSun
